Much more than a hike......

Broc and I went for hike yesterday in these mountains.

I actually had a very wordy blog post written in between these photos but I think those ideas will wait for another day.  The words were about how much our unschooling lives have led us to days like this with just the two of us now that our kids are grown.

I think I'll save those thoughts for another day and simply say how much fun I have every day sharing my life with this man. We know the importance unschooling has played in our connection and our trust and our playfulness and maybe these photos say it better than I could with those words.

The loop is actually 2.7 miles which doesn't sound far but it was a steep hike down and back up.  Broc and I are both  fairly fit and while we didn't think it was strenuous, we were definitely tired when we got home!

Broc took this picture today when we were down by the waterfall.  I like it because of my favorite shirt with the hummingbird.  I don't think he probably took it f…

Goodbye Winter!!

This was my first winter outside of Florida in fourteen years.  I was determined to get through it with grace but you may have heard my intermittent whining all the way to your house!  The first significant snow fell on Christmas Day and it was gorgeous.  I played in it, made snow cream and even helped build this very tall Snowman!  When all that snow melted a few days later, I think I may have said, "Well, that was a fun winter!"

Several snowfalls later as well as an my first incident with running out of heating oil and several subsequent expensive heating oil deliveries later, I was no longer amused.  Granted, it was not a long winter compared to what our friends in Canada and the Northeast experience but when I saw this flower blooming back in late February, I was overjoyed.

Last week, I ventured off the mountain to visit my dear friends,  Kelly, Ben, Cameron and Duncan Lovejoy.  Kelly shared some of her chickens' colorful eggs with me and when I came home they seeme…

More Adventures with Brenna, Blake and Pedro

I had completely forgotten that Brenna's boyfriend, Blake Boles, also has a travel blog!  I was loving all of Brenna's photo's and stories of their adventures but her blog was lacking in photos of my girl :).  However, Blake's blog has several sweet photos of her which made for a very happy morning for me.

She is one cute sleeper!  Here she is (photo stolen directly from Blake's blog)  with their traveling companion, Pedro, who they met while working at ETUSC last summer and  also traveled with them when they were on a West Coast trip last September.  He's been residing quietly at our home in Asheville the last few months, but I did see Brenna deflating him and placing him in the bottom of her backpack for the trip to India.  Looks like they both needed a nap.

Brenna in India

Our daughter, Brenna, is traveling in India for the month of April.  I have been loving the posts on her travel blog, April in India.  Some wonderful photography as well as narrative about her travels, so I thought I would share it here.  Enjoy!
